Throughout the year Vermont celebrates the craft of film from both local and global filmmakers at not one, but many film festivals all over the state. Check some of them out below.

The Vermont Film Festival is an annual celebration of independent cinema, held in the scenic landscapes of Vermont. Showcasing a diverse selection of films from around the world, the festival highlights the work of emerging and established filmmakers. Attendees can enjoy a range of genres, including documentaries, dramas, and experimental films, along with panel discussions, workshops, and Q&A sessions with filmmakers. Known for its warm, inclusive atmosphere, the Vermont Film Festival is a must-visit for film enthusiasts looking to experience thought-provoking and innovative storytelling in a picturesque setting.

VERMONT FILM & FOLKLORE FESTIVAL

MANCHESTER, VT

The Vermont Film & Folklore Festival is a four-day cultural event in May 2025 that celebrates cinematic storytelling as well as storytelling via oral and written mediums. The festival’s mission is to serve the people of southern Vermont by creating an annual event which underscores the importance of story to who we are as a society with a shared set of values, while simultaneously discovering and nurturing some of the most talented storytellers of our time.

WHITE RIVER INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL

WRJ, VT

Founded in 2004, White River Indie Films was created by a small group of film lovers who wanted to bring works from outside the mainstream to an appreciative audience. From the beginning, our focus was on screening issue-oriented films, hosting discussions, and partnering with community orgs with the goal of inspiring change. Alongside this mission was the aim of bringing filmmakers and audiences together to enjoy groundbreaking, provocative, entertaining cinema.

MADE HERE FILM FESTIVAL

Made Here Film Festival (MHFF) is New England’s only competitive festival devoted entirely to films made by New England filmmakers and our neighbor, Québec. A co-production of VTIFF and Vermont Public.
